Aircraft can only operate safely on airfield surfaces that are free of snow and ice. This requires effective solutions to ensure that flight schedules can be maintained.
Snowploughs, sweepers and blowers, as well as de-icing vehicles for spreading or spraying, often require time-consuming treatment of icy or snow-covered surfaces. In addition, the availability of de-icing agents must be ensured at all times. Damage to visual taxiing and landing aids cannot always be ruled out...

Complete System
The AºDºE JET Snow & Ice Remover complete system is a powerful solution for the professional removal of snow and ice from airports and airfield operational areas. It is available with either one or two turbines mounted on a robust frame for secure attachment to the front plate of the carrier vehicle. With the AºDºE JET 2, both turbines can be moved independently and continuously along three axes. Hydraulically extendable booms provide a working width of up to 13 metres, enabling particularly efficient treatment of large areas.
For safety reasons, the rotational movement of the turbines is limited so that the air jet can only be directed opposite to the direction of travel. This ensures that the working area remains within the driver’s field of vision at all times. The turbines can be swivelled into a horizontal position, allowing longer periods of standing or waiting without damaging the surface. Even in their lowest position, surfaces remain undamaged when the vehicle is travelling at walking speed.
The system features a complete regulation and control unit displaying the rotational speed and exhaust gas temperature of the turbine(s). An emergency shutdown can be activated both from the driver’s position and from outside the vehicle, ensuring maximum operational safety.
Optional Extensions
A suitable carrier vehicle for use with the AºDºE JET Snow & Ice Remover can optionally be equipped with a range of additional features. These include an additional fuel tank, rotating beacon lights and special lighting equipment for maximum safety on airfield operational areas.
An airtight driver’s cab with a positive-pressure ventilation system is also available. In combination with carbon monoxide warning devices, this reliably protects the driver from exposure to exhaust gases. Aviation and operational radio equipment can also be integrated to ensure safe communication during airfield operations.
Operating Principle
420 Metres per Second – Maximum Performance Against Snow and Ice
With an air velocity of up to 420 m/s, the AºDºE JET Snow & Ice Remover clears snow, ice, water and slush from airfield surfaces in the shortest possible time. The additional thermal effect of the air jet supports the clearing process by approximately 30%, ensuring particularly efficient de-icing. When the vehicle is stopped, the turbine can be swivelled into a horizontal position to prevent surface damage during prolonged operation. Under normal operating conditions at a driving speed of at least 2 km/h, there is no damage to surfaces, markings or airfield lighting components. In the horizontal position, the turbine can even be operated at maximum power for more than 15 minutes without affecting the ground surface.
Powerful Aircraft Turbine-Based De-Icing System
The AºDºE JET Snow & Ice Remover is a turbine-based de-icing system designed to reliably remove all types of precipitation from airports and safety-critical operational areas. The system runs on kerosene, which is readily available at airports and carried in an integrated tank on the vehicle. Installation can be completed quickly on standard trucks such as Unimog, Mercedes Actros, Volvo or comparable vehicles equipped with a hydraulically adjustable front mounting plate in accordance with DIN 70606. If no suitable carrier vehicle is available, we will be happy to advise you on selecting an appropriate model for operating the AºDºE JET system.
Optimized Jet Angle and Controlled Noise Levels
A jet angle of 12–15 degrees ensures optimal clearing results without disrupting flight operations. At a distance of 300 metres, the AºDºE JET 2 Snow & Ice Remover produces a noise level of just 61 dB(A), rising to 82 dB(A) at maximum power. By comparison, a Boeing 737 during take-off produces approximately 86.4 dB(A). At maximum power, fuel consumption is approximately 650 litres of kerosene per hour per turbine.
Scope of Application
Freezing Rain – 2–3 Times Longer Holdover Time
In freezing rain conditions, the AºDºE JET Snow & Ice Remover prevents water from freezing on airfield surfaces by reliably blowing it away before ice can form. When de-icing agent is subsequently applied to the dry surface, the holdover time is extended by a factor of 2 to 3. This reduces the amount of de-icing agent required, lowers costs and simultaneously increases runway availability.
Snow and ice are removed without leaving any residue, enabling safe and efficient operations. The system achieves an effective working width of up to 25 metres at a speed of 35 km/h.
Clearing Snow-Covered Airfield Lights – Less Damage During Winter Operations
Especially in challenging weather conditions, reliable visibility of airfield lighting is essential for safe traffic guidance. The AºDºE JET turbine is ideally suited for gently blowing snow away from elevated airfield lights, ensuring they remain clearly visible.
When used in a controlled manner, the system causes significantly less damage than mechanical snow removal. The recommended operating speed is approximately 5 km/h. At the same time, inset airfield lights are protected, as the use of aggressive or excessively low-set snowplough blades can be avoided.
Ice Sheets – Airfield Surfaces Ready for Immediate Use
Removing ice sheets from runways has traditionally been a time- and labour-intensive process. At walking speed, the AºDºE JET 2 Snow & Ice Remover can remove ice sheets up to 8–10 cm thick across a working width of 2 to 5 metres.
The combined operation of both turbines delivers optimal results: one turbine breaks up the ice sheets, while the second reliably clears them from the surface. This allows your operational areas to be restored to safe use quickly and efficiently.
Wet Snow – Effective Support for Snow Removal
When deployed behind snowploughs and sweeper-blower vehicles, the AºDºE JET removes remaining snow and slush particularly efficiently. The system demonstrates its strengths especially on grooved runways, where wet snow can be difficult to remove using mechanical methods alone.
With an effective working width of up to 20 metres at 35 km/h, the AºDºE JET ensures clean, safe airfield surfaces that can quickly be returned to operation.
